$500 presented annually to support one chapter member's attendance at the American Library Association (ALA) annual conference.

The Marion Mullen Travel Award of $500 honors a former head of the Reference Department at E.S. Bird Library at Syracuse University (now the Syracuse University Libraries). She was an extremely active Beta Phi Mu member and a candidate for national office.

To be eligible for this award, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member in good standing of the Pi Lambda Sigma Chapter
  • Be willing to attend the Beta Phi Mu annual chapters’ meeting at ALA and make a written report to our chapter president upon your return
    • 2025 Beta Phi Mu National - ALA meeting details will be posted as soon as they become available.

Preference is given to members attending their first ALA conference but all members are welcome to apply.

This year’s conference will be held in Philadelphia, PA from June 26 - 30, 2025. Please see ALA's Rates & Registration page for advance and standard registration dates and pricing. Registration opens mid-February.

Applications will be accepted through April 14, 2025 at 11:59pm (PT).

  • Confirm you meet the eligibility criteria listed below.
  • Write a personal statement of approximately 100 words stating your interest in this award and explain how it will enrich your career in library and information science.
  • Submit application by April 14, 2025.

The awardee will be notified no later than April 23, 2025.
